Short biography

Hannah Borthwick was born and grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. After completing high school, she enrolled for the BDram course at the University of Stellenbosch. A highlight of her student years, was her role as Sally Bowles in Marthinus Basson’s stage production of Cabaret. As her role included acting, singing and dancing it was her biggest challenge thus far. She subsequently won the Stellenbosch Drama Department’s Best Actress award and was nominated for the Fleur du Cap student award in 2009. She was nominated again in 2010 and won. Her first professional production was also under the direction of Marthinus Basson in Willem Anker’s Sakrament which premiered at KKNK 2009.
